- Blacks In Government NOAA Chapter 2009 Holiday Toys/Clothes Drive
The NOAA Chapter of Blacks in Government (BIG) is conducting its annual Toy Drive, November 30 through December 18, 2009, for children within the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. This year, the chapter’s objective is to provide donations to St. Ann's Infant and Maternity Home and local children in need.
NOAA BIG will be soliciting names of children to be sponsored until December 15, 2009. If you would like to submit a child’s name, become a sponsor or make a monetary donation, please contact Camille Jones at 713-2368 x114.
Collection points will be in SSMC I, II, III & IV lobbies, and additionally at our Suitland, Camp Springs, Georgia Avenue, and Colesville Road office buildings. As in the past, NOAA BIG will accept toys that are new or in excellent condition. The chapter will also collect new and clean clothing that is in good condition. Please go to the Wish List to view a list of suggested age appropriate toys and recommended articles of clothing and sizes.
A NOAA BIG committee has established the following order of preference criteria for toys and clothing distribution:
1. Families in need provided by social services, an official charity, or religious organizations.
2. Families in need recommended by a NOAA BIG member. Members may recommend two (2) families. Selections will be on a first come first serve basis.
3. Families in need recommended by a NOAA employee. Employees may recommend two (2) families. Selections will be on a first come first serve basis.
Names of families should be emailed to Camille.Jones@noaa.gov no later than December 15, 2009. Please provide the family’s name, address, telephone number, and the children’s age(s), and sex.
NOAA BIG also need volunteers to help with wrapping/packing and distributing the toys. They will begin wrapping/packing the toys on December 21st, with distribution to take place on December 22nd, 2009. If you wish to help with either of these, please e-mail Dennis.Hansford@noaa.gov.
The Toys/Clothes Drive’s goal can only be accomplished through the generous contributions of NOAA employees. Please support this worthwhile effort. Only new toys will be accepted and distributed as appropriate.
